When I came to college for my second year, I knew that I was going to need something to help me cook my meals. Having spent most of my first year dining out, I also knew that I could not afford to eat pizza, and go to fast-food restaurants everyday. This is one of the mistakes that I made when I came to college under the assumption that there would be adequate cooking facilities to cover my needs. I soon realized that I would need some things to cook on my own, and at the top of that list was an electric skillet.
Another advantage of owning a barbeque smoker is it's kind of like the difference between frying something on the stove vs. a slow cooker slow cooker mac and cheese bread crumbs. You need to keep a constant eye on barbeque grills but with a smoker, you can set it up and walk away knowing your food will cook to perfect doneness in the span of a few hours.
There are some steadfast rules when it comes to crockpot cooking. Some meals require ingredients to be added in stages. Most stews require the macaroni cheese dogs to be cook for a few hours before firm vegetables are added.
A recent study found that teenage girls were eating far too much saturated fat, sugar and salt and not nearly enough carbohydrates. Scare stories about carbohydrates are putting teenage girls off eating rice, pasta, bread and potatoes. This is silly, because these foods are essential for growth and well-being in any teenager. All right, so a huge mountain of spaghetti, oozing high-fat meat sauce may not be the best idea for a healthy lunch, but a small plate of macaroni cheese with sliced tomato, salad leaves and cucumber, would be ideal. It's all about eating "real food" in moderation.
And, of course, the greater the panic, the stupider the brokers (slow cooker mac and cheese your body) get. When you crash diet, your body tends to burn MUSCLE more than fat. Just like a broker selling off the good stocks that can help him recover from a crash.
I realized very early that this was no ordinary restaurant in a theme park, one that relied on a captive audience. The chef, Steve Carideo, studied at the CIA in Hyde Park, NY. Loyal readers of my column know that I just recently covered the Culinary Institute of America's training HERE and HERE. Chef Carideo uses some of the finest local products from the area, including Allen Benton's famous ham. Every Southern lifestyle and food magazine sings Benton's praises (if that's not too bad a pun for a Dollywood restaurant), like Garden & Gun, Oxford American, Southern Living. etc.
Despite the sacrifices, I was able to successfully stretch our food stamp budget to allow for 3 daily meals, and even had a little bit left over at the end of the month.
You can cook a meal without doing much work in as little as 40 minutes. Or you can let it cook all day, when you're away at work, and get home to a lovely tender meal at the end of the day.
